Innovation

5G technologies represent the next generation of wireless networks, enabling the transmission of larger amounts of data with higher reliability, lower latency, and faster speeds than ever before. While C-V2X technology is already available, supporting the autonomous vehicles of the future will require the technology to evolve to meet increasingly demanding safety and performance requirements. 5G will play a key role in enabling this evolution.

The latest 5GAA Roadmap, released in 2024, highlights an important industry inflexion point, where attention is expected to shift towards 5G-V2X technologies.

5G-V2X is based on 5G New Radio (NR) technology and can be deployed either alongside LTE-V2X or independently, depending on regional market needs and deployment strategies. 5G-V2X mobile network communications are defined in 3GPP Release 15 and later releases, while 5G-V2X direct communications are supported through 3GPP Release 16 and subsequent enhancements.
